The hardcore icons are giving away the song as a free download

Recently reunited hardcore group Black Flag have released a brand new song.

Click above to listen to the theramin-featuring ‘Down In The Dirt’, which comes ahead of a new album from the cult act. The song can be downloaded for free via SST Records by clicking here.

Ron Reyes, Greg Ginn, Gregory Moore and Dale Nixon are currently putting the finishing touches on an LP, which is set for release later this year.

They are one of two versions of the band about to play shows. The 1979-80 line-up of the band – fronted by Reyes – will play the Hevy Fest in Kent as well as gigs across the US and Europe.

Another incarnation of the band will also be playing shows this summer. The band’s co-founder Keith Morris, alongside Chuck Dukowski, Bill Stevenson and Stephen Egerton of Descendents, will be touring as Flag.

Down In The Dirt was released via the official Black Flag website with a note that reads that the band are: “not to be confused with the ‘fake’ Flag band currently covering the songs of Black Flag in an embarrassingly weak ‘mailing it in’ fashion. We urge you to check out the real Black Flag when they hit your area.”

Bass Drum Of Death – “Shattered Me” Video (Stereogum Premiere)

The video for Bass Drum Of Death s “Shattered Me” proves that making it rain is not relegated to glossy, bright rap videos. Even a black and white clip that starts off looking like an innocent road trip can lead to a casino adventure begetting stacks of cash thrown at two pros, who are kind of dishing sisters From The Shining vibes in their own subtle way. Check it out below.

Festival Review: Coachella 2013 – Saturday, April 13th

As ticketholders shuffled onto the grounds for Day 2, it was apparent that the newfound and hard-earned wisdom following Friday’s rookie mistakes drove a slew of essential tweaks and adjustments. Some blessed out patrons sporting cringe-inducing red welts lathered on the SPF 50 (it’s the desert folks, get it together – strike one), while others opted to schlep canvas bags this time around after shivering for five hours when the sun vanished on Friday (yeah, strike two).

On Saturday, Coachella 2013 became America’s unofficial Glastonbury by doubling in size and hosting three headlining caliber artists to simultaneously close out the night. To say the tents were packed from open to close would be an understatement, especially for 2 Chainz, but more on that later. And, hey, how about those Daft Punk rumors?

This is Saturday.

Savages – Mojave – 2:55 p.m.

Savages’ fierce brand of post-punk is the antithesis of all things warm and sunny and is ideally consumed in a dank hole in the wall of a dive an hour before last call and not during the most blistering time of day. What should have been a recipe for disaster instead …read more

Watch Huey Lewis and “Weird Al” Yankovic parody American Psycho

“There is an idea of a Huey Lewis, some kind of abstraction, that there is no real musician, only an entity, something illusory, and though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake and laugh at this Funny or Die video and maybe even sense your lifestyle is comparable: I am simply not there.”

Or so that’s how it would go, according to Funny or Die. The online comedy machine has pumped out another gem, this time it’s a parody of Mary Harron’s 2000 film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ classic novel, American Psycho. Rather than watch Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) axe Paul Allen (Jared Leto) to the tunes of Huey Lewis and the News, this alternate reality suggests it’s Lewis as the psychopath and, um, “Weird Al” Yankovic as the yuppie scum?

Just watch and die of laughter below.

Editor’s 80?s Trivia: Huey Lewis and the News’ seminal 1983 album, Sports, turns 30 this year. Its lead single “I Want a New Drug” not only was ripped off by Ray Parker, Jr. for Ghostbusters, but also parodied by Yankovic on “I Want a New Duck”. Make sense now?

Los Angeles outfit Hands are making it okay to dance again. Already they’ve been stirring up the heat online and soon they’ll shake dance floors with their full-length debut, Synesthesia, due out April 30th via Kill Rock Stars.

Their latest single, “Brave Motion”, might not sell that image firsthand. The reverberating piano, hazy vocals, and light flourishes may be more disorienting than dance-inducing. However, when the chorus explodes, you better hope those dancing shoes are laced up tight. Imagine Tanlines freebasing on Passion Pit; it’s a high you’ll want to ride again and again. Hook up below.

In support of their new album, Hands will embark on a two-month tour beginning April 8th. Peep their itinerary down yonder.

Listen to Thurston Moore and Lou Barlow’s new singles for Joyful Noise

Lou-Barlow-Crack-And-Emerge

Here’s something Reddit users can file under “Shutupandtakemymoney”: Joyful Noise has announced a new annual split 7? series titled “Cause and Effect” that will kick off with new music from ex-Sonic Youth/current Chelsea Light Moving frontman Thurston Moore and Dinosaur Jr./Sebadoah spokesman Lou Barlow.

As the label notes, there will be “three separate split 7? records, which each adhere to an overarching theme: an influential, historically-significant solo musician on Side A, and the modern result of that musical influence on Side B.” Thus, Moore’s been paired with Talk Normal, Barlow shares wax with Dumb Numbers, and The Jesus Lizard’s David Yow gets Child Bite.

They’re all sold together as a bundle and look extra snazzy on split color vinyl with artwork by Shawn K. Knight. Considering they’re limited to 2000 copies, you’ll want to keep your eyes on the label’s website

In the meantime, check out Moore’s single over at Pitchfork, and stream Barlow’s inclusion below.
